I joined Chi Omega my sophomore year of college, and I am so thankful for the girls I get to call my friends, the encouragement they give, and the many adventures it has brought. Chi Omega was an answered prayer. Freshman year was challenging, as it was full of figuring out who I wanted to be and what the Lord had in store for me. So many people asked me why I didn’t rush as a freshman, and I honestly never had an answer. I knew that I wanted to surround myself with a community that had similar values and encouraged me to be the best version of myself I could be. However, I never really found that my freshman year. With that being said, I felt the Lord pushing me towards recruitment. Wow let me tell ya, I can’t image my college experience without it.
Chi Omega was filled with the community I was looking and longing for. Friends that challenge me to put Christ first in all I do, teach me to stand firm in what I believe, constantly speak truth into me, and love me for who God has created me to be. Each girl is different in her own unique way, but we are all encouraged to be ourselves. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, but we use those to come together to accomplish big things.
To the older girls: One thing I was looking for coming to college is friends that I not only can pour into, but friends that will challenge and encourage me. The girls in Chi Omega have done exactly that. I have learned so much from those older than me. They have taken me under their wing and truly showed me how to love. From my bible study leaders to older girls I met through rush, they have poured love, wisdom, and advice into me. So thank you girls for taking the time to make a difference in the girls younger than you!
To the girls my age: They are my people. They look past my faults, my weaknesses, my failures and have loved me the exact same. They have taught me how to be confident in who I am and that I never have to try to be someone I’m not. They have shown me what constant, life-giving, genuine friends looks like. They never leave me hanging on the dance floor, always down for chips & queso runs, and the ones who will one day stand by my side at my wedding.
To the younger girls: I hope I have been able to make the same difference in you as the older girls have done for me. I have loved being able to pour out into y’all what I have learned the past 3 years of college. I challenge each one of you to take the initiative to find girls younger than you that you can mentor and help walk through college with. What a sweet blessing we have to be able to do this!
So, thank you Chi Omega for giving me my gals who are constant reminders of Lord’s faithfulness, who live life to the fullest, and love me so well! I will forever be grateful for this “nest” I get to call home.
